October Newsletter ~ Infinity Creations!

New York Strip and Fall Vegetable Roast with Mustard Cream Sauce

Ingredients:

Mustard cream sauce:

1/2 cup crème fraîche or sour cream

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Coarse kosher salt

 Roast:

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, room temperature

2 garlic cloves, pressed

1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary

3/4 teaspoon coarse kosher salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper

1 3-pound boneless beef loin New York strip roast

 Vegetables:

1 pound assorted mushrooms (such as button, crimini, and oyster), large mushrooms halved

1 pound turnips (about 2 medium), peeled, cut into 2×1/2×1/2-inch strips

12 ounces carrots (about 4 medium), peeled, quartered lengthwise, cut crosswise into 1 1/2-to 2-inch pieces

1 12-ounce celery root (about 1 medium), peeled, cut into 2 x 1/2 x 1/2-inch strips

5 large shallots (about 12 ounces total), peeled, cut crosswise into 1/4-inch-thick slices

5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary

Coarse kosher salt

Preparation:

For mustard cream sauce:

Whisk crème fraîche, mustard, and lemon juice in small bowl. Season with coarse salt. DO AHEAD: Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and chill.

For roast:

Mix first 5 ingredients in small bowl. Place beef, fat side up, in 13x9x2-inch roasting pan. Spread butter mixture over top of roast. DO AHEAD: Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and chill.

Let beef stand at room temperature 1 hour before roasting.

For vegetables:

Position 1 rack in bottom third and 1 rack in top third of oven; preheat to 450°F. Combine mushrooms, turnips, carrots, celery root, shallots, oil, and rosemary in large bowl. Sprinkle with coarse salt and pepper; toss to coat. Transfer vegetables to large rimmed baking sheet, spreading out in even layer.

Place vegetables on lower rack in oven and beef on upper rack in oven. Roast 20 minutes. Toss vegetable mixture. Reduce oven temperature to 350° F. Continue roasting until vegetables are tender and beginning to brown and instant-read thermometer inserted into thickest part of meat registers 130°F for medium-rare, 30 to 35 minutes longer. Transfer roast to platter and let rest 10 minutes. Spoon fat from top of drippings in roasting pan. Drizzle drippings over vegetable mixture; toss to coat. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Spoon vegetable mixture around roast. Serve mustard cream sauce alongside.

October Newsletter 2012 ~ Olivia Rox

We would like to take a few moments to introduce you to Olivia Rox.   At the age of 13, Olivia is the youngest member of our Infinity Artists Group family.  Daughter of the super talented sax man, Warren Hill and his director, writer, producer, wife Tamara, Olivia has been singing since the age of two.  At the age of three it was determined that Olivia had perfect relative pitch, and at the age of four she wrote her first song.  Over the past 11 years, Olivia has joined her dad Warren on stage and wowed the crowd with her outstanding vocal range.  Now, Olivia is stepping out as “Olivia Rox” and taking over the stage.  Olivia’s talents include singing, dancing, and acting, and she also plays the guitar, piano and ukulele.  Olivia has performed all over the United States and in 2011 she had the pleasure of performing on Dave Koz’s Jazz Cruise!

One of Olivia’s most recent endeavors is her movie called “Olivia Rox: The Movie”.  Olivia stars in the movie and wrote the soundtrack.  You may even catch a few scenes with her real-life dad Warren Hill.  Olivia’s character is charismatic while her imagination and curiosity keep your interest as she tries to solve the case of the missing puppies from the local animal shelter.   This movie can be enjoyed by young and old alike and you can pick up a copy today at www.OliviaRox.com

Recently, we had the pleasure of seeing Olivia perform during her Westfield Mall tour.  Her first appearance was on August 24, at the Carlsbad, California Westfield Mall and her second performance was in Orange, California at the Main Place Westfield Mall.

Shoppers congregated in front of a stage bearing a huge Olivia Rox backdrop and waited anxiously for Olivia.   A group of “pre-teens” rushed to the front of the stage, sat down and waited for the show to begin, each holding a handmade sign that read, “I LOVE OLIVIA ROX” or “OLIVIA YOU ROCK”.  The excitement and anticipation on their faces was inspiring and really showed how much Olivia and her music touches people.

After her dad, Warren warmed up the crowd with a few of his sax hits; it was Olivia’s turn to wow the crowd.  Jumping on stage with her contagious energy and glowing smile, she quickly had the crowd rocking out.  She performed some of her original songs and even did a few current radio hits.  One of the highlights was Olivia yelling to the crowd, “Are there any One Direction fans here?”  Girls screamed in response and Olivia belted out One Direction’s current hit “What Makes You Beautiful”.  Olivia had the crowd dancing and singing with that uncontainable exuberance only young girls exhibit.

Art Good Interview ~ September 2012 Newsletter

Our Infinity Artists Group team is counting down the days to Catalina JazzTrax.  The event is held over three weekends in October and is hosted by Art Good.  We sat down and spoke with Art recently to find out a little more about the man behind JazzTrax.  Check out some of our interview:

IAG:  How and when did you get into radio?

ART:  I was just reflecting on this earlier today.  In the early 70’s, I left Indiana to attend college in Los Angeles and there was this fabulous station, KNX FM Mellow Rock, that got a lot of people of my generation interested in radio.  I was trying to get on with a station in Portland but that didn’t work out, so I wasn’t too excited.  My first job was in a little California town in the middle of nowhere, then I went up to Salem, Oregon and then I reluctantly went down to Carlsbad, California.   I worked for a year in Carlsbad and then moved over to KIFM in San Diego and became Program Director.  Then, they asked me to do a late night jazz show and that’s when I agreed to the west coast version of smooth jazz.

IAG:  If you had not ventured into radio what do you think you would be doing?

ART:  I went to college to be a minister but I didn’t go that direction and found a love of radio during my college years, so I have never thought about what I would be doing if I wasn’t involved with radio or music.

IAG:  What was the first concert you attended?

ART:  It was the Carpenters in Indiana in the early 70’s.

IAG:  We know you’ve been doing this for a long time, what is your fondest memory from your career?

ART:  It’s always satisfying to pull off an event one more time as this is such a tricky business.  The recession scared the hell out of many of us and during that time I was going through a divorce, so to keep the business going and survive all of that is the fondest moment.  Also, the fact that the smooth jazz genre is surviving the demise of smooth jazz radio is very satisfying.  The Internet continues to spread the music and that is a great thing.

IAG:  What do you suggest the smooth jazz fans can do to keep this genre going strong?

ART:  The two things that fans should do are purchase tickets to festivals and concerts, and continue to purchase the music.  As long as the money continues to flow, the genre will continue to be successful.   If you are in the San Diego area, I would recommend you go to Anthology as many times as you can (www.anthologysd.com).  That is such a phenomenal and amazing venue.  It would be a tragedy if that venue ever closed.

IAG:  In 1987 you organized the first Catalina Island Jazztrax Festival.  Can you tell me a little about that first festival and who played?

ART:  It was very scary for me during those first few years.  After vacationing on the island many times I walked into the Avalon Ballroom in January of 1987 and realized how great this could be.  I knew I was nuts and the idea should never have worked, but I just thought “Jazz Festival”. My friends thought I was crazy and asked why I chose an island and why didn’t I just do it on Coronado or Palm Springs.  But I had a vision for Catalina!  My thought was that maybe it was nuts to start, but once it catches on and becomes legendary, a unique location is the best thing of all.  For the first 10 years, it barely broke even.  It took about a decade for it to catch on.  Regarding the first year’s lineup, I remember Joe Sample was the first musician to turn me down and I was devastated.  Stanley Clarke confirmed and then cancelled.  The first group to ever visit the island and perform was Spyro Gyro.

IAG:  For those that will be attending Catalina Island JazzTrax for the first time this year, do you have any suggestions?  Must do’s, must see etc…

ART:  Any visit to the island is unforgettable.  You approach the island and the first thing you see is this huge Casino.  It’s enormous sitting on the edge of this tiny harbor side town.  Once you arrive, I would recommend going to the Green Pier and having a drink.  Soak in the scenery, drop off your luggage and walk down to the Casino Ballroom.  It will probably be locked, but you can still walk around.  Then, continue on to Descanso Beach and have a second drink at the beach side bar.  If you arrive on Thursday you can enjoy the unplugged performance that evening and then casually wake up on Friday morning and enjoy the island before the music begins Friday evening.  On my website www.jazztrax.com, I just posted “50 things to do on Catalina Island besides Jazz”, so everyone can definitely check out those suggestions.

IAG:  JazzTrax is celebrating 25 years on Catalina Island, what motivates you to keep it going year after year?

ART:  Besides Catalina JazzTrax being such a premiere event, this is my career choice now.  I do what I do and I keep doing it and make sure I am successful at it.  It’s a full time job.  I don’t just work for three weeks in October every year.  I am working on this every day, 365 days a year.   I am already thinking and working on the 2013 Catalina JazzTrax Festival and that event is 13 months away.

IAG:  Many of our friends said that your Big Bear Lake Jazztrax Festival this year was fantastic. How does your Big Bear JazzTrax differ from Catalina?

ART:  It’s all about unique location.  Big Bear has taken eight years to work and now I have moved the show from up the ski lift on the mountain side to down on a lake front lawn.  The special thing about Big Bear is the floating stage that the musicians perform on.  I never choose a normal location for my JazzTrax’s, I am always on the lookout for a unique location and experience for the performers and the audience.  Peter White said one time, that of the 10 most unusual locations he has performed, all 10 were JazzTrax events.

Julian Vaughn interview ~ September 2012 Newsletter

Infinity Artists Group is proud to announce, Julian Vaughn, as one of the newest additions to our roster.  While you cannot miss the 6’7” lead bass player in a crowd, what is more attention grabbing is his sound.  Like many artists, Julian grew up performing music in his church.  Originally drawn to the drums, he found lots of competition among his friends because it seemed like each of the boys wanted to play the same instrument.  At age 15, Julian decided to choose another instrument and picked up the bass guitar.  He fell in love with the bass, taught himself how to play and quickly realized he could play by ear.  By the age of 19, Julian had his own 6-string bass guitar and had figured out that this was not just a hobby but a life’s passion.

Julian recently released his album “Breakthrough” with Trippin ‘N’ Rhythm Records and we were able to speak and learn more about him.  Enjoy some of our interview below.

 IAG:  How were you introduced to jazz music?

JULIAN:  I was raised in the church with gospel music but was introduced to jazz when I was around 15.  My Dad had a cassette tape lying around of Najee’s “Tokyo Blue” and after listening to it, I was immediately hooked.

IAG:  Who was a major influence on your becoming a musician?

JULIAN:  There were a few local guys in Kansas City that I looked up to.  Artist wise, I have to give props to Wayman Tisdale.

IAG:  Tell me about the first time you performed in public.

JULIAN:  I was 19 or 20 and the first song I ever performed in church was a song I wrote.

When I finished I received a 5 minute standing ovation from the congregation.  I don’t know where it is but I would love to have it for my archives.

IAG:  What was the first song you learned how to play?

JULIAN:  I do not remember a song specifically.  When learning how to play, I would just put in any gospel music and try to learn whatever the bass player was playing.  That is what I mean when saying I’m self-taught.  I learned by listening and repeating the sounds.

IAG:  What was the first concert you ever attended?

JULIAN:  It was before I even began playing music; it was a gospel group called “Commission” with Fred Hammond playing bass.

IAG:  You just released your new CD “Breakthrough”. Tell us a little about it and how it differs from your last CD.

JULIAN:  The title is really self-explanatory.  I have heard many artists, including other bass players, and I had to figure out how to create my own signature sound.  I wanted people to recognize it after the first few notes and be able to say, “Hey, that’s Julian!”  I believe I accomplished that with this record.  If you love this, just wait and see what I have in store for you on my next CD.  I am excited to continue creating music so look for a new release in the Winter of 2013.

IAG:  Where do you do most of your writing?

JULIAN:  On “Breakthrough”, two songs were written on the highway in the car.  I was writing a song in my car as it hit me, singing the vocals into my phone.  I’ve also had a song hit me in church where I have had to step out and record something into my phone.  But, on the flip side, when I do have the time to sit down and create, sometimes my mind is blank and nothing is comes to me.  So I’ve learned that when a song comes to me, I have to immediately take notes and record it into my phone.  I never know where and when inspiration will happen.

IAG:  How did you end up working with Darren Rahn?

JULIAN:  Back in the day, I was on MySpace listening to Wayman Tisdale and Toby Keith’s remake of “Never Gonna Give You Up”.  The thick bass line stood out, so I pulled out the CD liner notes to see who created and worked on it.  I found out that the bass player was Mel Brown, so I sent him a long email telling him I enjoyed his playing and that I would love to have him work on my album.  Mel replied, and after communicating a while Mel did some work on my album.  Later, I asked Mel if he knew Darren Rahn, and Mel said he and Darren were good friends.  So, Mel called Darren, put me on the phone, and our working relationship grew from there.

IAG:  How did you get in the line-up for the Dubai Jazz Festival this year?

JULIAN:  I was at the mall when I got a call from Darren Rahn.  He asked if I would be willing to go to Dubai to perform, and I said “Yes!”.  When I was over there I was walking around a huge 1,300-store mall and three people stopped me because they knew who I was.  I was blown away that people on the other side of the world, in Dubai, knew who I was.

IAG:  We love the entire new album but we have to ask about “Ju Ju’s Groove”.  Who is Ju Ju?

JULIAN:  Ju Ju refers to me.  It’s a family nickname I was given as early as age 2.  No one calls me that now, but growing up I was Ju Ju.  That song will probably be the second single that is released.

IAG:  What’s your favorite tune to play live?

JULIAN:  From “The Purpose Project” album, I like playing “Get Up” live.  On the “Breakthrough” record, I enjoy playing “On Your Feet”, but I think my favorite so far is “Ju Ju’s Groove”.  Oh yeah, and the title cut “Breakthrough” is fun to jam on.  It’s a three minute song, but at my recent CD Release Party we jammed on it for 10 minutes.  That was so much fun, we just tore the place up!

IAG:  Do you play any other instruments?

JULIAN:  Besides bass and drums, I play a little keyboard.  I really need to brush up on my piano skills though because that will only enhance my writing abilities.

IAG:  What has been one of your most memorable performances so far?

JULIAN:  I would have to say Dubai this year.  HHHow I was able to get up there in the windy 62 degree weather, not think about anything and just focus on putting on a memorable show.  I did some things I have never done before; jumping on a table during the last song, bringing people on stage for their birthday,  things I have never done before.  I was just in the zone and it was great.

IAG:  What was the last concert you attended as a fan?

JULIAN:  Wayman Tisdale’s concert in Kansas City, Kansas about six years ago.

IAG:  Whom do you listen to?

JULIAN:  I listen to and get inspiration from all genres of music except for maybe heavy metal.  I can work out to it, but I cannot get much musical inspiration from it.

IAG:  What are your hobbies?

JULIAN:  Fitness is my main hobby.  I try to work out and lift weights every day to take care of myself and be my best on stage for the audience.  I also love to play basketball.  I enjoy watching movies, but have been so busy lately that I don’t have the time to sit down and enjoy a movie.

IAG:  If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would you like to play?

JULIAN:  I would love to perform in Paris or South Africa.

IAG:  What can your fans look forward to from you in 2012 and 2013?

JULIAN:  Great music and a great show.  “Breakthrough” is just warming everyone up for the next CD.  I am ready to take the fans on a ride.

Chicken with Herb-Roasted Tomatoes and Pan Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds cherry tomatoes or other small tomatoes on the vine
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil, divided
  • 2 tablespoons herbes de Provence
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt plus more
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 small shallot, minced
  • 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons flat-leaf parsley leaves
  • 3 tablespoons fresh tarragon leaves

Preparation

Preheat oven to 450°F. Combine tomatoes, 2 tablespoons oil, and herbes de Provence in a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper; toss to coat. Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a large heavy ovenproof skillet until oil shimmers. Carefully add tomatoes to pan (oil may spatter). Transfer skillet to oven and roast, turning once, until tomatoes burst and give up some of their juices, about 15 minutes. Transfer to a medium bowl and drizzle with Worcestershire sauce.

Meanwhile, season chicken all over with 1 teaspoon salt and pepper. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Sear chicken on both sides until golden brown, 6–8 minutes. Transfer pan to oven and roast chicken until cooked through, 8–10 minutes. Transfer chicken to a cutting board and let rest for at least 5 minutes.
Slice chicken; divide among plates. Spoon tomatoes and sauce over; garnish with herbs.Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil to same skillet; heat over medium heat. Add shallot and cook, stirring often, until fragrant, about 1 minute. Deglaze pan with vinegar, scraping up browned bits from bottom of pan; add tomatoes and their juices and simmer until sauce is just beginning to thicken, about 1 minute. August 2012: Special Interest Piece

 

“September 8th, Save the Date”

Infinity Artists Group hopes that you are staying cool during your summer and that you are filling your days and nights with hot jazz music.  We are looking forward to a special day that is quickly approaching.  Saturday, September 8th, 2012 is a day that is going to be jam packed with music, friends and fun under the warm California sun.

Kicking off the day at 10am is the annual outdoor BBJazz Festival at Central Park in Huntington Beach, California.  Spend the day in a beautiful park setting with soft rolling hills and plenty of shade.  Tickets range from VIP Platinum Tables with dinner and two drinks too casual lawn seating.  There is not a bad seat in the house and you will be treated royally by Corky and Betty Bennish.  This is a top notch event that we here at IAG have attended in the past and we invite everyone out this year to enjoy musical performances by Angie Stone, Najee, Peabo Bryson, The Tony Rich Project, Anthony David, Walter Beasley and Pinot.

BBJAZZ is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization formed in 2001 with the purpose of raising funds and awareness for children’s charities. Later in the afternoon, down the coast in beautiful San Diego, California is the 2nd annual Jazz It Up concert held at Humphrey’s by the Bay,  brought to you by The Trinity House and sponsored by our good friends at Payne Pest Management www.paynepestmanagement.com .

Finally, another one of a kind event happening on September 8th here in San Diego is In Concert for Cancer.  In Concert for Cancer celebrates cancer survivorship and benefits Scripps Cancer Center in San Diego.

IAG August 2012: Jazz at the Creek

 

A new jazz concert series has come to beautiful San Diego, California this summer.  Brought to you by Leonard Thompson, President and CEO of M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records (www.mandaterecords.com) this is a series of concerts held on Saturday afternoons to bring those who are community involved and jazz enthusiasts in the area together.

 

M.A.N.D.A.T.E. Records is a Christian owned and operated, music recording and development company.  Leonard has promoted and produced many events in San Diego including events with Gospel Day at the San Diego County Fair and San Diego’s Annual Praise Fest (www.sandiegopraisefest.com).  Leonard said he wanted to bring jazz to San Diego and is testing out the market this year with a three show concert series this summer held at Market Creek Amphitheater (www.marketcreekeventsandvenues.com/venues_amph.htm).  Leonard said, if this series is successful he wants to try to host a six show Jazz series next year.  This series gives a portion of the proceeds to San Diego Food Bank’s “Food 4 Kids Backpack Program” which provides food to chronically hungry elementary school students from low-income households who are at risk of hunger over the weekend when free school meals are unavailable.

 

Infinity Artists Group was in attendance for the first two shows on June 30th with sax player Will Donato, the phenomenal bass man Darryl Williams and special guest sax sensation Elan Trotman.  The second show on July 21st, featured keyboardist Marcus Johnson and Infinity Artists Group’s own sax man Brad Rambur.  One of the highlights of the day was a young fan around age 6 who began dancing in front of the stage and was checking out Brad’s sax while he was playing.  Music reaches all ages and provides such enjoyment to everyone, so we at IAG are appreciative and thankful to everyone who is supporting Jazz At The Creek.

 

Market Creek Amphitheater has concrete stepped seating so bring a cushion, or bring a low-back lawn chair or blanket and sit in the grassy area.  Stay cool under the hanging canopies at this hidden gem in San Diego while soaking in the beautiful surroundings and listening to great jazz music.

KSBR Birthday Bash

Our Infinity Artists Group (IAG) team cannot believe 2012 is half over!  Festival season is in full swing and our IAG team is keeping busy with shows and events almost every weekend, including the 2012 KSBR Birthday Bash.  This event (held the Sunday of every Memorial Day Weekend) took place on May 27, 2012 at the Village Green of Oso Viejo Park adjacent to the Norman P. Murray Center in beautiful Mission Viejo, California.  Saddleback College Radio Station KSBR (88.5 FM) which has been playing jazz for 33 years promoted this event.  It was their 23rd annual KSBR Birthday Bash.

This festival had a special twist that other festivals do not have.  The complete line-up was not announced prior to the show so the audience’s anticipation grew as the day progressed, curious to see which artists would jump on stage.  Past event artists have included Chris Botti, Brian Culbertson, Evelyn Champagne King, Boney James, Joe Sample, Paul Taylor, Gerald Albright and others. There’s a twist for the artists as well.  They don’t know exactly who they’ll be performing with.  All the musicians volunteer to participate and the KSBR staff coordinate who with play when and with whom.  It’s important for the lead artists to bring copies of their music so the other musicians can listen or read it prior to the performance.

At this year’s festival, IAG was proud to have two of our artists participate:  Jackiem Joyner and Blake Aaron.  They enjoyed rocking out with fellow musicians Peter White, Dave Koz, Mindi Abair, Paul Brown, Hiroshima, Vincent Ingala, Derek Bordeaux, Max Bennett, Darryl Walker, Darryl Williams, Chris Standring and Rick Braun.

A new addition to the festival this year called “Taste of the Bash” had over 20 restaurants and wineries offering their fare on the festival grounds two hours prior to the music.   We sampled items from Pita Jungle of Newport Beach, Chili’s of Mission Viejo, Roma D’Italia in Ladera Ranch, Farrell’s, Anaheim White House Restaurant, and Hanna’s Restaurant and Bar finding them to be delightfully delicious and sinfully sublime.

Sated by 5:00 p.m., we settled in for the evening’s musical treat.   What we enjoyed most was hearing the artists jam together as one.  We were not just listening to Rick Braun perform his songs; we were watching Rick on stage with fellow artists Dave Koz, Peter White, Jackiem Joyner, Greg Vail, Paul Brown, Elan Trotman, and Vincent Ingala.  The show-stopper of the evening was their rendition of the instrumental “Grazin’ in the Grass” written by Philemon Hou and made famous in 1968 by African trumpeter Hugh Masekela.  Friends of Distinction lead singer Harry Elston penned the lyrics to it in 1969 and the rest, as they say, is history.  It has been recorded by Stevie Wonder, Chet Atkins, Boney James and countless others and can be heard on movie soundtracks including The Last King of Scotland and Space Cowboys.

Tri-Tip with Caramelized Red Onions

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Slicing this sturdy cut of beef very thinly after grilling makes it more tender. What to drink: Spicy, jammy Zinfandel from California pairs beautifully with barbecue!

Caramelized red onions

  • 2 tablespoons (1/4 stick) butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 1/2 pounds red onions (about 4 medium), halved, thinly sliced
  • 2 teaspoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon coarse kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh chives

Melt butter with olive oil in large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until deep golden brown, stirring frequently, about 30 minutes. Stir in vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper. Remove from heat. (Can be prepared 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate. Rewarm over medium heat before serving.) Stir in chives.

Tri-tip

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 1 1/2- to 1 3/4-pound beef loin tri-tip roasts, trimmed of all but 1/4 inch of fat
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Your favorite barbeque sauce with a touch of red wine added.

Prepare barbecue (medium heat). Mix garlic powder, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon pepper in small bowl. Brush both sides of tri-tips with oil and sprinkle with garlic-powder mixture, pressing to adhere. Grill tri-tips 5 minutes per side. Reduce heat to medium-low, or if using charcoal grill, move meat to cooler side of grill. Cover and grill until thermometer inserted into thickest part of meat registers 125°F to 130°F for medium-rare, brushing with barbecue sauce and turning every 10 minutes, about 30 minutes longer.

Transfer tri-tips to work surface; let stand 10 minutes. Cut meat crosswise into very thin slices; arrange on platter. Surround with caramelized onions and serve.

The 8th Annual Temecula Wine and Music Festival June 2012 Newsletter

Imagine relaxing under a canopy of native Cottonwood trees, the wind causing bits of cotton from the trees to dance around your head.  The air filled with the sweet smell of wine and delicious foods, being prepared under tents waiting for you to come by and indulge yourself.  You sit basking in the beautiful sun, surrounded by familiar faces and new friends, listening to some of the greatest live musicians around.  This is where Infinity Artists Group was on Saturday, April 28, 2012, at the 8th Annual Temecula Wine and Music Festival.

Held at the Vail Lake RV Resort in Temecula, California we found ourselves at the venue after a short ten minute drive just East of the 15 freeway.  There were multiple acts including East Bay Soul, Deniece Williams, Ray Parker Jr., Infinity Artists Groups own Blake Aaron, The Producers (Paul Brown & Darren Rahn), Eric Valentine, Gregg Karukas, Zanzaki and Michael Paulo (The Man, the Host!)

With two parking options including General Parking where you were shuttled to the gate and VIP parking immediately adjacent to the venue, getting into the venue was quick and easy.

As we walked through the gates we were surrounded by various vendors that included food, clothing and jewelry.  Many treats were available including Big Dev’s BBQ, ice cream, fashionable hats to keep you looking good and out of the sun and colorful clothing selections.

As we passed through the vendor area, we came across the CD signing table, managed by Tina Wong, where many artists came out after their performance to mingle with their fans and sign the CD’s that fans had purchased.  To our right, the wineries were set up for a unique wine tasting experience including approximately ten local wineries including Wilson Creek, Monte De Oro and Bel Vino.  Next to the wine tasting was the auction booth where you could bid on items to help support the Boys and Girls Club of Southwest County, which serves 6-18 year-olds and their families by providing transportation to and from the clubhouses and school from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every school day. As we turned away from the auction booth we were pleased with the seating and stage set up.  Seating choices varied between front row VIP tables, middle row assigned seating and great view general admission seats.   No matter where you sat the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming.  Guests were smiling and enjoying the beautiful weather, amazing music and delicious wine and food.

We enjoyed a great day of fun, music and friends.  We would like to thank Michael Paulo for hosting this event every year.  His hard work and dedication to the community is appreciated.  The event is held every year near the end of April and we would highly recommend attending this fun filled event.  Bring your sunscreen, dancing shoes and some money to buy tasty treats, a few souvenirs and artists CD’s to help support the musicians.  We hope to see everyone out there next year!  For more information please visit www.temeculawineandmusicfestival.com.
